We all want to give our bodies the fuel it needs to feel great and run at its optimal level. But due to life...work, kids, school, and other responsibilities we find this a great theory, yet hard to put into practice.

We start our days with all the best intentions. We eat a healthy breakfast. Then at lunch, we are still on the right track. By 2 o'clock, our bodies crave a snack and we're ready to eat the first thing that comes our way.

What makes our good intentions fade so quickly? How do we fight those cravings when our bodies are screaming for junk food?

In one word, the answer is PLANNING. We have to plan our meals and snacks in advance. This gives us the tools we need to combat the munchies no matter when they strike. I have tried everything except duck tape to stay out of the cookie jar come mid-afternoon. I even make a plan to fall off my plan. Sounds crazy, right? Of course it is! But so are those days in life when the best intentions are ended by eating everything in sight.


I write a weekly menu and post it on my fridge for the family to see every Sunday. This accomplishes a couple different goals. First of all, it keeps my eating on track. When I can look at the fridge and have all of the ingredients I need at my fingertips, it makes it easier to eat healthy. I even plan my snack options for the week. I give myself a few healthy choices that are convenient and tasty. If I restrict myself too much my body is screaming for chocolate! I carry granola bars with chocolate chips (of course) in my purse and car for the times when nothing else will do.

By planning out your family's meals for the week, you also will be able to stay on budget. I plan our weekly meals and snacks with the grocery store circular on Sundays. I know what is on sale and have my coupons in front of me. I have my list and can stay on budget as I'm wandering through the grocery store aisles. As you can see, my planning madness keeps my diet and my wallet on the right track.
